PR/SM ist eine Firmware für IBM zEnterprise EC12 (zEC12) GA2 und zEnterprise BC12 (zBC12) GA1 Systeme, die es erlaubt, die Ressourcen einer einzelnen System zEC12 oder zBC12 Maschine auf mehrere, voneinander getrennte, logische Maschinen - sogenannte "logische Partitionen" - zu verteilen. Jede logische Partition stellt eine unabhängige Einheit dar und erlaubt den Einsatz handelsüblicher Systemkontrollprogramme wie z/OS TM, z/VM TM, z/VSE, z/TPF TM oder Linux for System z. Diese Betriebsysteme können ohne weitere Anpassung innerhalb einer von PR/SM bereitgestellten logischen Partition betrieben werden.
PR/SM is a hardware facility running on IBM System zEnterprise EC12 (zEC12) GA2 and zEnterprise BC12 (zBC12) GA1 that enables the resources of a single physical zEC12 or zBC12 machine to be divided between distinct, predefined logical machines called "logical partitions". Each logical partition is a domain of execution, and is considered to be a subject capable of running a conventional system control program (SCP) such as z/OS TM, z/VM TM, z/VSE, z/TPF TM, or Linux for System z. These operating systems run unmodified in a PR/SM partition.
