PR/SM ist eine Firmware für IBM zEnterprise EC12 (zEC12) GA1 Systeme, die es erlaubt, die Ressourcen einer einzelnen System zEC12 Maschine auf mehrere, voneinander getrennte, logische Maschinen - sogenannte "logical Partitionen" - zu verteilen. Jede logische Partition stellt eine unabhängige Einheit dar und erlaubt den Einsatz handelsüblicher Systemkontrollprogramme wie z/OS™, z/VM™, z/VSE, z/TPF™ oder Linux for System z. Diese Betriebsysteme können ohne weiter Anpassung innerhalb einer von PR/SM bereitgestellten logischen Partition betrieben werden.
The TOE is PR/SM for IBM zEnterprise EC12 GA1 Driver Level D12K. PR/SM is a hardware facility running on IBM System zEnterprise EC12 (zEC12) GA1 that enables the resources of a single physical zEC12 machine to be divided between distinct, predefined logical machines called "logical partitions". Each logical partition is a domain of execution, and is considered to be a subject capable of running a conventional system control program (SCP) such as z/OS™, z/VM™, z/VSE, z/TPF™ or Linux for System z. These operating systems run unmodified in a PR/SM partition.
