Type of Malware: backdoor, worm

Affected Operating Systems: Windows

Affected Device Types: PCs, laptops

Impact: medium

What is MyDoom?

MyDoom is a computer worm, i.e. a malicious program that is able to reproduce and spread itself. MyDoom is a malicious program that opens a backdoor to the infected device. Through this backdoor the attacker can gain access to the system and carry out further actions. The attack possibilities are diverse and range from information theft to the reloading of additional malware.

How did I get infected with MyDoom?

Opening malicious email attachments can infect systems with MyDoom. The malware is contained in a file that appears to be benign. The attachments often have names such as invoice, reminder or similar to tempt the user to act carelessly.

Alternatively, links to websites hacked by criminals can appear instead of attachments. Attackers hid malicious scripts on these websites. These scripts are used to download and install the malware without victims' consent.

What do I have to do now?

In order to eliminate MyDoom and, if necessary, detect further infections, it is recommended to scan the infected system with an antivirus program and remove any hits
