The security module in question provides cryptographic core routines for creating and verifying signatures, generating and issuing keys, and generating random numbers for the mini hardware security modules (HSMs) of smart meters. It also serves as a form of secure storage for the cryptographic key material of such modules.
To define and document the functionality of the security module in a suitable manner, the BSI created a corresponding protection profile.
