Compendium of Videoconferencing Systems

The Compendium of Videoconferencing Systems helps users such as planners, procurement agents, operators, administrators and auditors to design the complete lifecycle of internal organisational videoconferencing systems securely. It takes all phases into account, from planning and procurement to operation, contingency planning and disposal.

The ongoing coronavirus crisis has brought about a significant increase in demand for videoconferencing systems in business and administration. In these times, security is playing an important role in communications. This Compendium helps to guarantee this security.

Interaction with security safeguards and technologies

The document builds on the system of the IT-Grundschutz Compendium. As such, it divides the requirements for videoconferencing solutions into Basic Requirements, Standard Requirements and Requirements in Case of Increased Protection Needs. The use of videoconferencing technology in official CI areas will be regulated in a future document that is still in progress.

The Compendium takes account of the ongoing amalgamation of information and communications technology. It demonstrates how modern videoconferencing solutions are tightly networked in the world of IT, what the resulting risks are and how they can be managed. It also considers challenges in relation to cloud and AI-based services.

In addition to information security, it highlights operational and functional aspects. This includes the room setup or examples of how to create specifications for tender processes for videoconferencing systems.
