Use cases and applications

The deployment of private 5G networks will bring new requirements for enterprises, governments, research institutions and other operators.

The performance parameters of 5G have improved, in some cases significantly, compared to the previous generation of mobile communications (4G LTE). The required performance parameters influence each other and are therefore not all available at the same time. For this reason, 5G offers a total of 3 profiles that can be tailored to different requirements and selected according to the user's needs.

  • Ultra reliable low latency communications (URLLC)
  • Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB)
  • Massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC).

Private 5G networks are currently being deployed in the following environments:

This is not an exhaustive list.

In logistics to control driverless transport systems

In the industrial environment for real-time control and monitoring of machines and robots in the production process, Smart Factory (Industry 4.0)

For networking sensors and actuators, as well as tools and machines used in the intralogistics of production processes

In the medical environment to support surgical procedures with real-time camera feeds

In agricultural test scenarios, e.g. for autonomous control of agricultural machinery in field cultivation

For networking IoT devices, e.g. in building automation

For telephony and communication between people and devices

For the use and control of drones, e.g. for surveillance flights with real-time transmission of recorded images

For communication with test vehicles on test tracks

As a communications network and for data transmission at major events such as concerts
