In Germany, the BSI has been designated as the responsible supervisory body for trust services in the area of creation, verification and validation of certificates for website authentication. For the other areas, this task is performed by the BNetzA.

According to the eIDAS Regulation, the task of the supervisory body is, among other things, the qualification of corresponding trust services to ensure a comparable level of security.
