A Firewall is a product type used to protect a network or individual computers against unwanted access. A Firewall regulates the data traffic between two separate networks as a filter at a defined network interface and decides on the basis of underlying rules whether certain data traffic is allowed or rejected. The protection of a network serves in particular to protect all components located in the network.
A Firewall in the sense of this Requirements Profile implements one of the two functions "Packet Filter" or "Application Layer Gateway" (ALG).
