- "Commercial off the Shelf", synonymous with "commercially available equipment".
- EMSEC
- "Emission Security" / "Emanation Security", synonymous with "emission security".
- Equipment set
- An operational set of equipment / components that is approved as a whole under radiation aspects. Therefore, a specific equipment set is always radiation tested as such and must also be used as such; in particular, individual components of a equipment set may not be changed or exchanged or supplemented by further components: This is then a new, non-radiation-tested and generally non-approved equipment set. Example: Workstation computer, monitor, mouse and keyboard form one equipment set.

- "Level A" equipment
- Devices of this class are used for processing SECRET in zone 0. "Crypto devices" usually have to meet the same requirements regarding their radiation properties.
- NTA
- "National TEMPEST Authority"; in Germany the BSI
- TEMPEST
Can address protective measures against attacks via compromising radiation as well as such attack techniques themselves. TEMPEST is a code name, not an acronym.
- "Zone 1-device"
Colloquial for device approved for use in zones 1 to 3.
- "Zone 2-device"
Colloquial for device with an approval for use in zones 2 and 3.
- "Zone 3-device"
- Colloquially for device with an approval for use in zone 3.
