Ägypten

The Sphinx pilot trialled end-to-end security for e-mail by using manufacturer-neutral public key cryptography. Various products received enhancements for Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes and Novell GroupWise, and were tested for their interoperability.

The products trialled were developed exclusively for the Microsoft Windows operating system. To expand the product portfolio and promote the utilisation of open source software (OSS) in the office environment, the Ägypten project is developing software that can be deployed on other operating systems, especially Linux. The software supplements the graphical mail programs currently available as OSS applications so that encryption and electronic signatures can be applied, while also enabling the secure exchange of e-mail -- also with Sphinx products from other manufacturers.
