Critical services

Because of their special importance for the functioning of society, critical services within the Transport and Traffic sector of Section 10 (1) Sent. 1 of the BSI-Act are:

• Passenger and freight transport

  • Air traffic
  • Rail transport
  • Sea and inland waterway transport
  • Road traffic
  • Public Transport
  • Logistics
  • (Miscellaneous)

Facilities-Categories and Thresholds

Whether a facility is to be identified as a Critical Infrastructure is dependent on thresholds derived on the basis of criticality of supply, as tabulated in Part 3 of Appendix 7 of the BSI Kritis Regulation for the Transport and Traffic sector.

Operators are to perform this threshold-based identification for their respective facilities until March 31 each year, based on data for the preceding year. Exceeding the threshold then entails identification of the corresponding facility as a Critical Infrastructure, which needs to be immediately registered with our KRITIS-Büro.
