Because of their special importance for the functioning of society, critical services within the Information Technology and Telecommunications sector of Section 10 (1) Sent. 1 of the BSI-Act are:

• Voice and data transmission

  • Access
  • Transmission
  • Communication
  • Control

• Data storage and processing

  • Housing
  • IT hosting
  • Trust services

Facilities-Categories and Thresholds

Whether a facility is to be identified as a Critical Infrastructure is dependent on thresholds derived on the basis of criticality of supply, as tabulated in Part 3 of Appendix 4 of the BSI Kritis Regulation for the Information Technology and Telecommunications sector.

Operators are to perform this threshold-based identification for their respective facilities until March 31 each year, based on data for the preceding year. Exceeding the threshold then entails identification of the corresponding facility as a Critical Infrastructure, which needs to be immediately registered with our KRITIS-Büro.
