KRITIS Finance and Insurance sector

Critical services

Because of their special importance for the functioning of society, critical services within the Finance and Insurance sector of Section 10 (1) Sent. 1 of the BSI-Act are:

  • Cash supply

    • Authorising withdrawals
    • Inclusion in payment transactions
    • Customer account debits
  • Card-based payment transactions

    • Authorisation
    • Inclusion in payment transactions
    • Debit to customer account and credit to payee's account
  • Conventional payment transactions

    • Acceptance of a credit transfer or direct debit
    • Inclusion in payment transactions
    • Debit and credit customer account
  • Clearing and settlement of securities and derivatives transactions

    • Clearing of securities and derivatives transactions
    • Booking of securities
    • Booking of money
  • Insurance services

    • Utilisation of insurance services

Facilities-Categories and Thresholds

Whether a facility is to be identified as a Critical Infrastructure is dependent on thresholds derived on the basis of criticality of supply, as tabulated in Part 3 of Appendix 3 of the BSI Kritis Regulation for the Finance and Insurance sector.

Operators are to perform this threshold-based identification for their respective facilities until March 31 each year, based on data for the preceding year. Exceeding the threshold then entails identification of the corresponding facility as a Critical Infrastructure, which needs to be immediately registered with our KRITIS-Büro.
